The trip to 高雄輕 was on January 7th and the trip to 高雄港 was on January 15th.
TAIPEI METRO:
On the first trip, we learned how to ride the MRT, which is honestly my second favorite method of travel (walking is honestly the best way). Yesterday, on the way to our meet-up place for the 高雄港 trip, the majority of us had to take the MRT to get there. I met two of my fellow program members on the way, and we had a great time.
Kao-hsiung Harbor 高雄港(gāoxióng gǎng):
We went to 旗津島 (Cijin Island)! The first picture is the view from the boat we were on, and the other two pictures are views of 旗津島! The history behind this Island was pretty interesting!
Cijin Tianhou Temple 高雄旗津天后宮天上聖母(Gāoxióng qí jīn tiān hòugōng tiānshàng shèngmǔ)：

This is the Temple where the Sea goddess gives her blessings to those who go out to the sea! The temples in Taiwan are completely different from the Temples in Japan! The inside was a bit more modern (was also made out of acrylic and plastic), so that was an interesting surprise! The incense also smells different from a Japanese temple, and obviously, the temples are MUCH more colorful!
Cihou Fort 旗後砲台(Qí hòu pàotái):
This is the Cihou Fort! This was once the headquarter of local Taiwanese fighters who were against the Japanese colonizing Taiwan. The history is rich, but I won't go into too much detail on here. The thing I found most interesting about the fort is that there was a more western look to the architecture (despite having so much Chinese symbolism integrated into the architecture).
BEACH & LUNCH:
Before heading off to lunch, we all took a detour to see the beach! The person in the very front taking the picture is my language partner!
Note: Some language partners will be very good friends with you, and other language partners are more professional/formal with you!
I got the pesto seafood pasta for lunch! Taiwanese food and Taiwanese-style foreign food (excluding a few things) and all wonderful!
